Hey friends, welcome to a solo episode of Community. I am so excited to talk to you about this topic today. I think I say that every week, because I'm always like so, I have to really be in the mood to podcast. Like I never jump on here and I'm like, I hate it here. I gotta do a podcast. Like I'd rather just not put one out. So I am so excited this week to really just chat about threads. So I did an episode about a year and a half ago about threads. And it was about, you know, it had just come out and it,

It was really well received actually. I got a ton of downloads really early on. I kind of jumped on it as soon as threads came out because I was trying it and I wanted to tell people what to do. And this is something I'm actually really gonna try to do more of, I hope, as much as it allows, is timely content, right? Like what's going on right now in social that's working, that's not working, that people are liking, that they're not liking, and really speaking to that because honestly, we learn so much through our clients all the time.

We're always talking to our clients, hearing from them what's working and what's not. And then also like media, right? There's so much changing all the time and we have so many perspectives on it. We're always thinking about it. So wanted to get on here and talk about a few things. So threads, a year and a half later, my reflection is that it is still a really powerful place to be. I will tell you in this business life, I have never been on X one time, ever, ever one time.

So that's not really like has been not like our clients aren't asking us to be on X Are we're not really on there? We're not like doing anything So there that hasn't really been a huge focus of mine, but why I love threads is because I love Instagram So the obvious connection there is really helpful You know a lot of my followers on Instagram

I get to see on threads, I get to see what they're up to, and then I get exposed to totally different people. And I will say when I am consistent on threads, which isn't all the time, but when I'm consistent on threads, I do see an uptick of Instagram followers. So I think that's great, people who wanna connect in the DMs and stuff, because threads doesn't have a DM feature. So it's really great to be able to grab people from threads, get them on Instagram, but you can talk about like kinda what's going on for you and what you're liking, what you're not liking.

Kristina (02:18.45)
But threads is just a bit of a different feel than other platforms. So what I'll say is, again, I haven't been super consistent on there. Every few months I kind of go through a spurt where I post a few times a day and then, you know, maybe for a month or two I don't. If you've been listening to this podcast for a bit, you know, I just finished my first trimester so I was down and out for a bit there. And with that being said, that wasn't like a priority of mine was like keeping up with threads. So every once in while I'd post something.

Threads is this really great place where you're able to really establish authority and be able to establish connection, which I think is really what it's all about, really. It's kind of like Twitter-esque where people are sharing a lot of.

really good information, but at the same time, there's a really relational aspect there. And threads also has like a really happy feeling. Like I know that sounds weird, but it has a feeling that's kind of joyous. Like people are really celebrating each other. You people will post milestones. We started doing that too. Like when we get a cool milestone or I get a testimonial or something, I'll post it on threads. And again, all of those things together moves that social proof needle for you, right? So if you're trying to build social proof and you're trying to build connection with people,

this is a great way to do it. And so what's really cool about threads is we actually have gotten clients for threads before and they've been ideal clients, people we've connected with and pretty like hot, hot leads because essentially what they do is they post saying, I'm looking for a podcast producer, I'm looking for a social media manager. And then if I don't get the chance to actually comment on it saying like, hey, like we can help you out, here's our website. One of my followers might. And so that's been really neat where I've noticed that someone...

will be like, Christina, social snap, I will be able to help you with this. I also laugh because people will say like, I'm looking for a Canadian accountant. And I'm always like, Stacey at Thrive, right? So your network will really show up for you. And it's such like an open place to do that, which is awesome. And what I'll say about threads, which is so different than other things, especially even like Instagram, is it's a really multipurpose space. So there's a lot you can do there. You can talk about a lot of things. So, you know, I made a post about being pregnant.

Kristina (04:21.262)
You know, you can make a post about that. I can talk about a book I'm reading. I can talk about the real housewives I'm watching. That'll be my next podcast. But like I can talk about kind of anything and then go back to business. I do notice that the algorithm kind of responds to that in a sense of like, you know, I do give a lot of business tips, but then every once in while I'll like post something about something random and I'm not really penalized for it. But then whatever that topic is starts to come up for me more and more. So now I'm seeing a lot about like birth and stuff like that, which I wasn't seeing before.

or Real Housewives, I'm seeing a lot more Real Housewives stuff. But on Instagram, I get way less of that because my following's very curated. I don't spend a ton of time exploring in the Reels app. I know a lot of people do like on the Reels portion of the app, but I don't. And so I don't see a lot of like external content unless I really look for it. While on threads, I'm always kind of connecting with new people and seeing new things. And so the great thing about being able to talk about a lot of things is that you get to showcase your personality.

You get to talk about lots of things many times, which I've talked about before, but often on Instagram we feel like, I made one Instagram story. I'm never going to talk about that again. But really people do need to hear things over and over again. And so if that's the case, how do you add that value in a way that makes sense? really the best thing that you can do while being on threads is offer value. Really just provide value. Like it's like almost any other platform. People are looking for what you do, right?

They are gonna be attracted to your energy. They're gonna be attracted to what you're putting out there, what you're saying, your perspectives on things. A lot of our perspectives are about community over competition and things like that. People love that energy and so they'll post. I'm noticing even for high vibe women that threads is connecting me with a lot of Canadian entrepreneurs that I've never been connected with before. So that's really cool, right? Like a woman from Paris, Ontario messaged me, being like, my goodness, I'd love to be there. I go look, she has a great following. She's got great things going on.

so that was really cool. And so really being able to make those connections can be big. And so even if you're trying to think about like, what should I pose? I don't have an Emmy for another content plan. Like, you know, maybe you're posting on LinkedIn, maybe you're posting on Instagram already on Facebook, whatever that looks like. what I would recommend is taking your social media content on Instagram and trying to put it into bite sized pieces. So whether that's through an AI platform and like, you know, really just helping them narrow down your voice, I'm doing it manually, being able to say like, Hey,

Kristina (06:46.062)
You know, this is these are these are three points that I'm taking away from my own caption If you're doing long-form content like podcasts taking pieces from podcasts, right? so I would say that that can be really helpful and You just want to make it shorter and like, you know, I think people really respond on that platform to like witty Controversial like, you know taking a stand on something, right? So if I go on there and I'm like, you know sales matter like that's not super helpful But I went on there today and I said hey

And it has like 80, I think 80 likes already and like a bunch of reshares, but from people I don't know, which is great. And it upticked my followers. I got some new followers on Instagram, but I posted saying, we have 80 clients in our marketing agency. I tell people all the time to talk about what they want to talk about and what they sell. We have an offer that I never talk about. I talked about it last week and we got four sales. So like no one's immune to like being scared to share their offers and not really resonated with people because they told a story.

So the more things you can do like that with your trends is, or with threads, is being able to talk about things that are happening kind of directly to you and really adding that volume to it. It's not enough to just be simple. You don't want to just chat GPT like, like what should I put? I'm a Pinterest expert or I'm a leadership coach. You want to make sure that it's aligned with your messaging because people will start to connect with.

I do find too, like people like to respond and like any platform, it only works if you're gonna engage. So we had a client be like, I think I should be on threads. And we're like, if you're never gonna log on and talk to the people on there, it's not worth it. It's not enough for you to just post there. You need to be engaging with other people's content. And that's actually the beauty of the relationships and the connections is that people will post and then you get to respond saying, I totally agree and here's why, or I disagree and here's why, and build that rapport.

really it only works if you're willing to engage and like any of the platforms we talk about here, this requires you to be social. So social media is meant to be social and you can't just post and expect really massive results. So really just think about like your niche and like how are you an authority? Like how does like community or whatever, does your community respond to the things you're saying? What are things that you've said on a podcast, on social, in a story?

Kristina (09:08.834)
that have been bangers that you're able to put in there. And you can use it as a personal space as well. Like I have a few friends who use threads really personally. They talk about being a mom and laundry and different things like that. They're not necessarily talking about business and they're generating traction there too. So people like that. And so I think people are looking for like a human way to scroll and a human way to connect with people. This is a great way.

This is meant to be just like a little quick mini episode. I love threads. You know, we've gotten clients off threads, but it does take that consistent action and that being social for you to be successful on it. I would love for you to tell me what you've tried on threads, what's worked for you and where you've seen the most value because I'm seeing a lot of people, you know, use it to fill funnels and to fill master classes and to promote podcast episodes. I've done that and it's worked. Even I noticed anytime anyone asks a LinkedIn question, I always post the episode Ben and I did saying,

Here's what I would do on LinkedIn if I was just getting started and I usually get really good downloads from that. But I'd love to hear what's working for you because I bet this is still a new platform. I bet you're doing things a little bit differently than me. So if you have any questions about threads or if you're interested in learning more about it, we are hoping to do module on it in the Social Business Club soon. But yeah, any questions you have, any thoughts you're having about it, I'd love to hear. Keep on building your community.
