Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Community. I am so amped for this year and so amped about so many of the things that are happening and I'm feeling like a new wind around 2025, but I'm gonna listen to this probably like deep in. And so I have been taking kind of like the best lessons that we've been taking from the Social Business Club, from conversations we've been having with clients, from what social media managers are telling us, and really just like...
taking all those and trying to make good episodes for you folks so that we can share all of our learnings with you. And one of the things that has really come up, and this is honestly something that and I struggle with as well, is often we think that everybody knows what we do. I don't know if this resonates with you, but this is something that comes up from Maria and I all the time, where we're like, everybody knows that we do social media. Everybody knows we do podcasting. And I'm here to tell you that I think nobody knows as much as we think anybody knows about anything that we're doing. Nobody cares as much as anyone thinks we care.
And it's really important for us to keep talking about what we're doing over and over and over again. of course, sometimes we have audience problems, right? You've talked about something and now if you've sold it and then just have to, nobody else left to solve it too. I think it's kind of rare to get to that point. Marie and I, ran a webinar a number of times called algorithm proof. I love this webinar. I'm obsessed with it. Now I actually do it as like a teaching and it's so great. But one of the things that's really comes up when we do that webinar a lot is that
People have like a lot of questions. They're really excited about what's happening and and then they typically join the social business club and it's been really good and then so we ran a few of those and we'd get like 50 people we would never run ads like but we'd get about like 50 people and then we went and we ran one and we only got a few people sign up and the reason for that was because we actually kind of like overdid it with our audience we the people who kind of knew about social business club knew about social business club and so we were kind of like okay and then we stopped talking about it like kind of completely
The people who are members of the social business club, they love it. They provide us so much good feedback. They're always telling us how much value they get from the calls about how much they love the coaching, how much they love the modules. But for some reason, we just stopped talking about it almost completely. And something I realized was that we were under this limiting belief that everybody knew what we were talking about already. So it kind of just felt like we like, why are we going to keep talking about this? Everybody knows what the social business club
Kristina (02:18.692)
So then now that I'm in my second trimester, I'm feeling like a totally new wave on working. The first trimester I literally did nothing for three months. I used to have to like pump myself up to go inside my office. But now I'm in the season of like being really excited and being really like rejuvenated. And so I started posting a little bit about the Social Business Club on my stories and we got some new people registered because we hadn't talked about it in a while. And what it made me realize is that...
It is so important for us to be telling people how we can help them and like the different offerings we have. And of course that's sprinkled in amongst personal content and other things that we're doing, but we really need to make sure that, you know, even if we feel like we're speaking something over and over again, people don't always catch our content all the time. I'm even finding that on social with my pregnancy announcement. I made an announcement and then I kind of talk about it kind of loosely in stories and people every single time I posted a story are like, my God, I didn't know you were pregnant. I'm like,
Weird, like I thought everybody knew. So it's a reminder that not always does everybody know what we're doing all the time and that's why it's so important for us to continue to show up, remind people and talk about what we're doing. often also people aren't thinking about us that much and if they're not seeing it and they don't know what we have going on, you can't be top of mind for people. So even if someone is, you're the person that they're gonna sell to, or sorry, they're the person that you're gonna sell to and you're really excited about it,
you know, maybe they're not ready to buy, but they might know somebody who's ready to buy. So they might be ready to make a referral. They might be really excited to make a connection for you, but you need to remain top of mind. And so you want to find ways to show that expertise and authority and see a time where you're able to give feedback and insight. sometimes that's with social media content, right? So sometimes with social media content, we're like, okay, like I can add a lot of value. I can show you what I'm up to.
I can tell you how I'm doing. I'm able to tell you like best practices around whatever my industry is. So sometimes we use social media content in that way. But there's also other ways for you to be showing expertise and authority. Sometimes that looks like teaching in groups, asking people, hey, can I do a free session in your community? That's something that Maria and I did a lot when we were launching the Social Business Club is like, hey, who has a community that we can teach in? The other thing is really, what's a meaningful way that you can give somebody insight?
Kristina (04:39.658)
An example of this, this is kind of funny, but I have a new mentor that I'm really excited about. We just made a new investment and it's somebody who he's like done a $40 million plus sale. It's pretty incredible. And so he posted on Instagram, he was on somebody else's podcast. And so I DMed him and I was like, hey, like super random, you don't even need to do this with me, but I just want to tell you, like you should have your own podcast and here's why, you know, and here's how you can monetize it.
best of luck, like let me know if you ever wanna talk about it. And he's like, can you help me with this? And DM'd me and then now we have a call book, right? So that never would have happened if I hadn't reached out. And so you don't wanna message people. This is something I like have always been really careful with. We see a lot of social media out there where people are doing things that are like weird or like, know, art converting. I don't message all those people and I'm like, hey, your social media looks like crap. Like, unless they ask me then I will tell them. what always, I lead with a lot of sensitivity and I also want, like, you know, there's no pitch involved in it.
I'm really coming at it from like an improvement lens. So I'm just saying like, hey, I'm noticing this and I wanna give you this feedback. So you can see that in a lot of areas of your life. You're seeing people do something, you know, maybe you're a mindfulness coach and you're seeing people hustle, hustle, hustle. And someone asks, hey, I'm looking for, you know, different ways to rest. You giving feedback and it doesn't have to be by my program. It can be like, hey, if you've ever tried like meditation, right? Like really just adding in that expertise and adding in that joy. And I think that's really how
the initial part of business has been built, right? Business is built by relationships, connections. And so if you can do that, it's really great. And really, it might not be that that person needs your services, but they might, again, you're really planting those seeds for something in the future, which is really, really great. So I find that often is that I'll talk to somebody one time and I'll have a great conversation with them, and then they'll hire us like, you know, in two years. And wow, that was awesome.
But that doesn't always happen that way, right? So you have to know when you want to invest your time and how much free advice or free things you're willing to do. But at the same time, if you can offer value and leave people with good experiences, people are so excited to talk about it, right? Like I know for me, when I have a great experience at a store, you know, I always laugh. I got married at like a really nice wedding venue. I love this wedding venue. Anytime anyone gets married, I'm like, you need to get married with this group. I love them so much.
Kristina (07:01.914)
If you're local to me, it's the Pearl Hospitality Group. I'm obsessed. And when I was planning my baby shower, like we were planning my baby shower, I was like, I have to use one of their venues, Like, duh. Like you start to just create these like, okay, like these musts. And so when you have a good experience with someone, you start to really build a narrative of like, you go out of your way to wanna work with them. You go out of your way to wanna refer them. So it's the same, like for us, when we're doing business, you wanna be somebody who people are so excited about. They're somebody who like,
They're like, absolutely, like I love Christina and Maria and I really wanna refer them. We have a client that I swear he comes across anybody who might even use the word social media and he's like, you need to talk to Christina and Maria and he'll put us in an email chain immediately, right? That is beautiful. And so you wanna create those kind of relationships with people but the only way you can do that is by telling people what you do and telling them over and over and over again and showing them to the best of your ability. That's something I think a lot of people miss in their content is they're not actually showing what they do
or their expertise. I even think we could do a better job of that, right? Like showing off our clients and all of that. We love to give social media tips, but we could be showing what we do. And the last thing I'm gonna say about this is really just shooting your shot with people, telling them how you can help them. And you don't need to do it in a cringy way, right? When I messaged that guy about his podcast, I have messaged so many people giving them feedback about their podcasts. I had somebody who was, somebody I knew.
She was on her own podcast and I listened to the first episode and I was like, hey, she works with a totally different production team. She had gotten a quote from me and didn't like the quote and worked with someone else and I messaged her and I said, hey, just to let you know, your mic's not plugged in. I can tell. And she was like, my gosh, could you show me a video of how to plug in a mic? No problem. And I did. Right? Has she ever worked with me? No. Has she referred people to me? Yes.
So I think it's really important for us to know that not everything's always gonna look like ROI instantly. It's not always gonna look like, I put out the sign and people are buying this. But sometimes really, really cool stuff can happen when we're in the energy of just being willing to be generous, telling people what we're up to. And that's really how we built our business is by just giving out free feedback, giving out social media audits. And that is how our first round of clients kinda came to us. So that is just something I really wanted to share with you guys today. A quick tidbit is like,
Kristina (09:19.194)
I'm telling you right now that people in your life don't know how you can help them, 100%. I'm gonna guess, there's people. I have friends who who run marketing, like I multiple friends who run marketing agencies. All of us are like, does anybody actually know what we do? Or people will come to us and they'll be like, can you make a website? I'm like, no, I can't make a website. But it's weird that you don't know that I can't make a website, right? Like all of these things are things for us to consider. It's like, we need to be talking relentlessly about what we're doing so that we are the top of mind when someone is looking to
That is top of mind for me as a little 2025 learning I'm noticing so far. And I even posted on this on threads and so many people responded back being like, yes, this is so hard and so much actually easier sometimes talk about our clients and talk about the services of our friends and our colleagues and just talk about ourselves. But as entrepreneurs, this is a skill we need to hone and we need to craft. So go talk about yourself, go tell people what you do and I hope you have the best, best day and hope it's super fruitful.
